Name: Sokuuf’oren Rutela “Sokuuf” a.k.a. Naiad
Alignment: Hero
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Physical Description: Sokuuf is a young, fair skinned Atlantean girl with mid-back length navy blue hair. Her hair is straight and layered, and a thin, gold-colored headband rests on her head. Her features are soft and rounded, and her eyes are ever so slightly slanted. Sokuuf has heterochromia, causing one of her eyes to be a brighter blue than the other, navy one. Thin eel-like tattoos cover her limbs and torso, only visible when she uses her mystic abilities. Her slender body is lithe and toned from her years in the militia, a fact that is rarely made noticeable unless she is in Atlantean clothes. While she appears completely human normally, abet one with strange hair, when exposed to water her gills and finger and toe webs appear. The Atlantean clothing she wears consists of a light blue, skintight, high neck tanktop and a sea green sarong-like cloth that wraps around her waist. While in surface dweller’s clothes, she dresses in looser clothing. She wears a necklace she once found in a shipwreck that has three pendants on a gold chain. The first pendant is a smooth, spiracle emerald held gently by a swirling gold tree branch. The second pendant is a jagged, rhombus-shaped ruby cradled by equally jagged gold. The third pendant consists of three pentagonal sapphires held in a triangular shape by coiling coral made of gold. As Naiad, she dresses in her Atlantean garb, a navy blue cloak, and a navy, butterfly-shaped mask that conceals most of her face. The mask has three slits above each of her eyes which allow her to see from them without her eyes being shown to others. The mask has a point that covers her nose, two points, representative of lower wings, that extend down her cheeks, and the upper wings that swoop up and end a few inches off her face. As Naiad, Sokuuf hides most of her hair under her cloak, making it appear that she has short hair.

Personality: Sokuuf’oren is a determined young woman with a strong sense of justice. Despite being shunned for her less than pure blood, she is happy and kind to those who refused to accept her. Calm and soft-spoken, she tries to see the good in people, no matter how hard it may be. Sokuuf is level-headed most of the time, which allows her to think things through before considering a plan of attack. When truly enraged, however, she can react rashly and in a more violent way than she would usually. In general, Sokuuf cares little for what may happen to herself and chooses to help others in every way she can. While she doesn’t care about what happens to her, Sokuuf cares greatly for those around her whom she calls her friends. She would gladly die in order for them to live and would just as gladly fight for or beside them. She is highly protective of her family, friends, homeland and most sea life, especially dolphins.
Sokuuf does not enjoy killing, but has come to accept it as a soldier. While she can overlook some acts in favor of good deeds, she cannot condone violence aimed towards any innocent, be it Atlantean, human, animal or body of water. Sokuuf speaks very formally and respectfully at all times, and is quick to follow orders given by an authority figure. She holds her King in the highest regard, and respects all heroes. Sokuuf tends to second-guess her decisions, worrying about how the outcome will affect those she cares for. She attempts to be an honorable person at all times, but she knows better than most that honor codes are broken at times where they should be upheld. While the honor code she tries to abide by deals with her refusal to kill, if push comes to shove she will make the choice to kill if it will save lives. Sokuuf is highly protective of water bodies and cannot stand for pollution or trash within them.
Because she is new to the surface world, Sokuuf’oren can be easily manipulated due to her naivety of the land above water.
Powers/Skills/Abilities:
Atlantean Attributes: can breathe underwater, resistant to low temperatures (even those that would freeze a human), highly dense skin, superhuman senses, superhuman reflexes, superhuman endurance and above normal level strength
Amphibious Transformation: When water touches her skin, Sokuuf gains gills on her neck and ribs and the webbing between her fingers and toes. These allow her to breathe underwater and swim at breakneck speeds.
Marine Telepathy: Sokuuf can communicate with sea life and can request for sea creatures to assist her. She cannot control them or order them against her will. However, those who are willing to help her can be much more dangerous than one would expect.
Sorcery: Due to her time at the Conservatory of Sorcery, Sokuuf is able to use various forms of Atlantean magic that when used cause her tattoos and eyes to glow a neon blue. She uses hydrokinesis, electricity generation, ice generation and can create hard water constructs. Her mastery of hydrokinesis allows her to heal with it, but doing so may tire her.
Combatant: As a member of Atlantis’s military, Sokuuf received combat training both with and without weapons. She is by no means an expert, but was considered one of the best Atlantean fighters in the militia.
Master Swimmer
Paraphernalia:
• An Atlantean trident that she has slung over her back
• A water skin (an emergency way to hold water if she doesn’t have access to it in the environment)
• Her three pendant necklace
• The mask she wears as Naiad
Weaknesses:
Extreme Heat/High Temperatures/Dry Conditions: As an Atlantean, Sokuuf relies on hydration more so than a normal human would. If exposed to high levels of hat without any means of keeping hydrated, Sokuuf will dehydrate and if there too long, she will die.
Overuse of Magic: Her sorcery draws from her own energy, so overusing it will tire her out.
PTSD: Sokuuf suffers from PTSD from her time in the military. The flashbacks and engrained instincts from training can hinder her at best, and put her out of commission at worse. The flashbacks tend to be triggered by explosions and exceptionally loud noises.
Mortality: While her skin is denser than a human’s, allowing for a natural armor, she can still be killed.
History: Born of a forbidden union between a human woman and an Atlantean man, Sokuuf’oren lived a relatively happy life in Atlantis, despite being shunned by more narrow-minded Atlanteans for her less than pure blood. She was happy with the family she had, the only family she knew, in the form of her father, Mikl’age and half-brother, Zai’ten. However, as she grew older, she began to long for the chance to see the surface, where her mother was. This childish curiosity was quickly quelled when she turned twelve and finished her education, and was quickly drafted into the Atlantean militia. There, she learned to fight and found herself with a new love and respect for her watery homeland, as well as creating strong bonds with other soldiers, including a certain one from Shayeris. Once her time in the military was up, and she was honorably discharged, Sokuuf found herself studying the mystic arts at the Conservatory of Sorcery. Everything was starting to be perfect in her mind.
Until it wasn’t. Atlantean purist groups began to gather support and started actively marking those they deemed impure for death. Due to her status as a technical half-blood, and her lack of qualms with scaled Atlanteans, Sokuuf was quickly targeted. While she was protected as a student of the Conservatory by her instructors and her fellow students, her father began to fear for her life. As she was born due to his relationship with a non-Atlantean, he felt as though he had slated her to die himself. Because of this fear, and the growing Purist threat, Sokuuf’s father begged the King to send her to the surface, somewhere she could be safe.
King Orin, understanding the man’s plight, agreed and Sokuuf was sent to live with her mother, Anniken Jormungandr, a Norwegian artist who had immigrated to America. Claiming that she was Anniken’s niece, and that her Atlantean name was actually Norwegian, Sokuuf found herself living in Gotham City. While uncomfortable with her new life away from the beautiful Atlantis, Sokuuf quickly discovered ways to make her stay more bearable, plus putting her training to good use. Gotham was a city filled to the brim with evil that had close access to a large body of water. Choosing to defend her new home, she became the vigilante Naiad, a hero that would not go unnoticed by those who already guarded the dark city.

“What was it like?” her mother asked her, leaning towards her, blue eyes glimmering in excitement. Sokuuf’oren Rutela, an impure Atlantean grimaced at her human mother’s curiosity before speaking softly.
“I did my duty,” she began, remembering that fateful day years before.
She had been thirteen at the time, and halfway done with her mandatory military service. King Orin has tasked her and a few others with protecting a small city. Many of the others had wandered into the city, curious to experience the nightlife, leaving Sokuuf alone on her side of the outskirts. It was nearing night on the surface when she first saw the ships arriving.
“Mantamen, here?” Sokuuf’oren murmured softly, reaching for the trident she had slung across her back. She stepped forward, spinning the weapon as the Mantamen approached her.
“Stand aside, child,” One of them said to her, moving to go past. Sokuuf swam in front of him, pointing the prongs of her trident at his helmeted face.
“I do not wish to cause you harm,” she began, glaring up at him. “But if you do not turn back of your own freewill, I will be forced to make you.”
“Come on,” one of the other Mantamen groaned. “Black Manta wants the city. Who cares about one of Orin’s do-URGH!”
Sokuuf’oren pulled her trident from the man’s stomach, eyes downcast. The Mantamen exchanged startled looks, watching as one of their own fell to the ground, the water around him turning a red haze. Sokuuf looked up at them, eyes gleaming with anger and regret. “He is our King, and you would do well to remember that. Now, stand down, I beg of you.”
“Get her!”
Sokuuf looked down at her trident, her hold tightening around it as they swarmed her.
“Nothing more,” she finished, averting her eyes from her mother’s curious expression. The woman would never be able to understand what she had gone through in her life. Never be able to understand what her service had cost.
