The year 2014 is giving rise to a new breed of hero; these iconic figures have been around for some time, but it is very early on still. The Justice League has not been formed, and the heroes are divided between different ideologies and methods.
In Gotham, it has been two months since the events of Batman: Arkham Origins. The Black Mask is back in business, and once again top dog in Gotham City. The Falcones and the Penguin are battling it out over control of the East End, and the Batman is still an urban myth. The Dark Knight's crusade never stops, for crime is at an all-time high in the city of corruption. The Joker and his gang are moving in on the Amusement Mile, and turning it into something far more sinister. He also took in the psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel (Harley Quinn) to be his consort, princess of crime. All these gang movements are beginning to give rise to a new era in Gotham's history: the beginning of a new age.
In Metropolis, it has been two years since Superman entered the fray. His battle against Zod earned him the right to be Metropolis's boy scout, a symbol of hope and honor for them. Already, he is finding it difficult to battle villains such as Atomic Skull and Banshee. His job continues to get progressively harder; Superman needs assistance to protect his city.
Star City has been seeing a new hero for the past year or so, by the name of Green Arrow. Green Arrow's traits are widely unknown to the public, as he is not one to make public appearances. Street crime in Star City has dropped significantly, but mob activity has increased as Green Arrow and Brick fight it out in the Glades. Time will tell if this vigilante is a fiend, or a hero.
Central City's Flash is already renowned as a worldwide hero, much like Superman. His laid-back and lenient attitude is adored by the public and the media. Central City's villains are getting restless, though. They seem to be forming a group to combat the Flash...something far more sinister than your average mafia...
With all these changes going on, it is no wonder that there is another group of heroes and villains entering the fray. Some of them have been well-established already, some of them are newcomers. Only time will tell who wins the battle...
